INSPRE In the first episode when Cindy Crawford complains that Oprah complimented her body I had a problem with how she threw another woman under the bus. It rubbed me the wrong way. Both women are living in the same oppressive, second class citizenship status in the U.S. In the interview she gives herself a pass ("at the time I didn't think anything of it") but if she would have just been a little more conscious she would have understood MOST women wouldn't have thought twice about it. Oprah was giving her a compliment, in spite of herself. Cindy should have extended the same grace she gave herself to another woman. But she didn't. She said..."this was Oprah." Conflating the Oprah that we know today, one of the richest most influential women in the world, with the Oprah that appeared in the video, a local Chicago day time talk show host who no one had heard of yet. The show is good, but as an African American scholar, professor, womanist I'm disappointed but not surprised that she would be obtuse in a really nice jacket. I wonder why Yasmeen Ghauri wasn't included. She was a pakistani model who was amazing. I know she has remained mainly out of the spotlight focusing on family so likely she didn't want to be part of it maybe?Great trip down memory lane! These models were iconic. I remember flipping through the pages of Vogue and admiring them so and they were role models to me! However, it does serve as a bit of a puff piece, as most of these nostalgic 90s documentaries have, particularly in regard to Naomi Campbell. She really hypes herself up and doesn't really take accountability for mistakes she may have made along the way. I came out of this really loving Christy Turlington thought, who I previously knew very little about.
