This #HungerActionMonth, Dairy West is excited to announce our collaboration with Tackle Hunger to combat food insecurity across the nation. During this crucial month and throughout the year, we are committed to ensuring that essential dairy foods are within everyone’s reach.Milk, cheese and yogurt, while highly demanded, are seldom donated to food charities because they need refrigeration. Through our partnership with Tackle Hunger and their innovative donation map, you can help change this by making monetary donations directly to local food charities. These contributions will provide nutrient-rich dairy to those in dire need. This initiative spans 21 states, where regional dairy councils work tirelessly to ensure that donations reach our communities effectively. This effort not only feeds but also nourishes, supporting everything from children’s growth to adults' health.Jaclyn St. John MS, RDN, LD from Dairy West underscores the urgency: “With 13 million children facing food insecurity in our nation, our partnership with Tackle Hunger is crucial. By donating through the Tackle Hunger Map, you support our local food banks in providing dairy essentials to families in need.”🔗 Join us in making a difference. Visit the map.tacklehunger.org to support your local food charity and help us make dairy accessible to all. Your involvement can lead to a healthier, more equitable community.#TackleHunger #DairyNourishes #FeedTheChange #AgNews #StrongerInNumbers

Alex C and I come from similar worlds apart—the post-Soviet terrains of Russia and the now war-torn Donetsk region of Ukraine. Our childhoods were overshadowed by the pangs of food scarcity, a memory that now fuels our purpose at Zina's. I remember the lengths to which my parents went to provide for me amid widespread need. Their resilience inspired my vow when I joined Zina's over ten years ago, and ever since, we have chosen to annually contribute to the cause of helping end food insecurity. We have kept that promise, contributing annually. Now, as 2024 approaches, we're ready to broaden our impact and invite organizations aligned with our vision to join us. Our past is not just a story; it's our call to action. If your mission resonates with ours, or if you know a group that shares our passion for change, let's connect.Together, let's ensure our next steps leave a lasting footprint in the fight against hunger.#EndHungerNow #TogetherAgainstHunger

This past fall, the itec group volunteered at the Brantford Food Bank and discovered that donations often decline in the summer, likely due to the absence of festive holidays and busy summer schedules. Today, we returned to give back again, donating both our time and food. We sorted items by type and expiration date, achieving in three hours what would have taken their team three weeks!A reminder: the need for donations extends beyond peak holiday seasons like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Consider donating your time to help pack orders or sort items at your local food bank. Volunteers are crucial in keeping these services running for those in need.High-demand items include:- Peanut Butter- Oatmeal- Canned Fruit/Vegetables- Infant Formula- Pet Food- Cleaning Products- Toilet Paper- Feminine Hygiene Products- Shampoo & Deodorant- Toothpaste & ToothbrushFor more information on how to get involved, check out this link or contact your local Food Bank. https://lnkd.in/gXXB8if9Let’s support our community all year long!

Did you know that instead of purchasing food at retail rates, we collaborate with the California Association of Food Banks, major retailers, USDA government assistance programs, growers, distributors and fellow food banks to secure wholesome food? When you contribute financially, you enable us to offer a greater quantity of nutritious groceries compared to donating store-bought food. 🥑Thanks to our capacity to harness large-scale food donations, bulk purchasing capabilities, and the dedication of volunteers, every $1 donation empowers us to supply enough food for two meals.Help us fill tables this holiday season and beyond. If we can raise $1,000,000 from our community between now and December 25, The Benificus Foundation will match the amount. Double your impact: https://shfb.online/b9bd77

For our 9th Day of Mindful Christmas we are doing charity shout outs. 🎄A charity I got particularly connected to during my MScR is FareShare South West. As some of you may know, I spent one year of my academic career carrying out research on sustainable food systems in Bristol. Of course during that time FareShare’s work on surplus food redistribution could not go unnoticed. I was also a volunteer at the Wellspring Settlement Food Club, which partnered with this amazing charity to redistribute food to those suffering from food insecurity.Every year we waste over 3 million tonnes of perfectly good to eat food in the UK, which often has not even reached supermarket shelves before going to the bin.FareShare’s work not only helps avoiding waste, they also help individuals feel less isolated and have better diets, improving both physical and mental health. Their work inevitably helps the environment too, as for every tonne of surplus food they redistribute, they prevent 2 tonnes of CO2e and 2.66 million litres of water from being wasted. If you’re looking for a local charity to support this Christmas that truly has an impact on your local community, consider FareShare.https://fareshare.org.uk#charityfundraising #foodinsecurity #donate

Did you know that 1 in 8 Americans experience food insecurity while more than $200 billion is spent on food that will never be eaten? That’s billions of pounds of food wasted instead of going to those who need it. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) aims to redistribute excess food to people experiencing food insecurity. RLC makes it easy for businesses to donate their excess food to their community and provides a reliable, professional food rescue service for our partners at an efficient cost.Join us at the Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Gala 2024 as we unite to end food insecurity. If you cannot attend, please donate to support the cause. The link is in the first comment below. #foodrescue #donate #foodinsecurity #nonprofit

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿Donated items come in the form of:Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves.Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running.Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items.Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores.-Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste TogetherYou can donate too!
