Overview of the Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection

The Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection is a network of over 1,000 luxury hotels and resorts worldwide that offer extra benefits and privileges to select Chase cardmembers who book through the program. Chase recently added Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to their Luxury Hotel & Resort portfolio, expanding the footprint by over 100 properties. Best of all, booking through this program can be the same price as booking through other channels—meaning all your extra benefits are free.

Several of the benefits mirror the type of extras you’d get from holding elite status through a hotel loyalty program, such as free breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi and late checkout. Each individual property also offers a unique, high-value benefit. These vary by property but may include dinner for two, spa credit or free access to resort amenities like complimentary golf green fees.

Unlike elite status, you don’t need to earn your benefits. Everything is extended automatically as long as you book directly with the Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection, either online or by phone.

Chase Cards with Access

In order to book through Chase Luxury Hotels, you’ll need to be an eligible cardholder. Although Chase does not explicitly publish which cards participate in this program, many cards qualify, including several without an annual fee. This marks a significant difference between Chase Luxury Hotels and American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts, which is only available on some of American Express’s most premium cards.

You can confirm if your card provides access by searching for a hotel reservation on the program’s page. Before your results are shown, you’ll be prompted to enter the firsts six digits of your card number or login to your Chase account to verify your eligible card.

While we don’t know which cards are eligible, the list has included:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve®
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited®
  • Chase Freedom Flex®
  • Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
  • Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
  • United Club℠ Infinite Card
  • United℠ Explorer Card
  • United Gateway℠ Card
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card*

If your card doesn’t provide access to Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts, instead of hotel results, you’ll get a message that says, “You have entered a non-eligible Chase card number. Please enter the first 6 digits of your eligible Chase card number.”

If you have multiple Chase cards, you can search again with a different card until you find one that works. We recommend starting with the card that offers the best rewards rates on travel.

Benefits of Booking Chase Luxury Hotels

Travelers book through Chase Luxury Hotels for one main reason: to access benefits you otherwise wouldn’t be privy to. Rooms here aren’t discounted compared to other booking channels. Rather, you’re getting extra value from the benefits instead of a cash discount.

Only three benefits are guaranteed, but they’re big ones:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • Special, property-specific benefits (worth up to $100)
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Other benefits are based on availability. Be prepared to ask since they may not be offered proactively.

Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection: Everything You Need to Know (35)

Daily Breakfast for Two

Complimentary breakfast every day can add up, especially since luxury hotels often have high price tags on basic menu items.

Each individual hotel sets what’s included in your breakfast package (the details will be shared during the booking process, so there are no surprises). At some hotels, only a continental breakfast is included. At others, you may have full access to the buffet or a set dollar amount to use as you wish toward a la carte items.

In any case, this benefit is offered for two guests per room and is valid throughout the entire stay.

Hotel-Specific Offers

The other major benefit to booking through Chase Luxury Hotels is the property-specific benefit, usually valued between $25 and $100. There’s a lot of variability here, but you’ll know what’s offered before you book so you can determine if it’s something of use.

One of the most common offers is a food and beverage credit to use during your stay at on-site restaurants and bars. Spa credits are another common offer.

Unfortunately, some hotels offer less flexible freebies, which means their value will vary based on your circ*mstances. Benefits like free valet parking will only be worth something if you have a car, and free tours or activities are helpful only if you have time and interest to fit them in.

Complimentary Wi-Fi

Although many hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi sitewide these days, not all of them do. When booking through Chase Luxury Hotels, you’ll receive internet access throughout your stay, even if the hotel normally charges a fee.

Room Upgrade (When Available)

Room upgrades are one of the most nebulous benefits since they’re neither defined nor guaranteed. Some hotels consider certain floors or locations an “upgrade.” Other times, an upgrade might mean a preferred view. In the best cases, an upgrade might mean a suite or other larger, more luxurious space.

When hotels are solidly booked, you might not get an upgrade at all. Because of this, it’s always best to book the room type you need right from the start and consider any upgrade a bonus.

Early Check-in and Late Checkout (When Available)

Chase Luxury Hotels doesn’t define when early check-in begins or when late checkout ends, so what’s offered (if anything) is at the discretion of the front desk. As always, what’s granted will depend on how busy the hotel is and how quickly they can turn over rooms. During peak periods, this perk might be hard to count on in advance.

Drawbacks of Booking Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts

Rewards and Elite Perks

Most hotel brands only offer reward points, elite status perks and credit toward future status if you book directly through the hotel, which means you might be forfeiting these by booking through Chase Luxury Hotels. Some properties may offer these benefits on top of your Luxury Hotels perks, but consider it icing on the cake and not a guarantee.

Most of the on-site benefits, like complimentary Wi-Fi and free breakfast, are equal to or better than elite status benefits when you book through Chase Luxury Hotels, which means you’re not missing out. However, if you’re trying to requalify for elite status and need those night credits or if you’re collecting points for a free night later on, you’ll need to factor those into your decision of how to book.

It’s always worth mentioning your member number when you check in, just in case the hotel is also willing to honor elite benefits.

Lower Rates

At first glance, the rates on Chase Luxury Hotels look quite a bit higher than what you’ll find on other sites. For better or for worse, the website includes taxes and fees when it displays results, whereas most other sites only show the base rate. In many cases, when you compare apples-to-apples, you’ll end up with the same total cost, meaning your extra benefits won’t cost a dime.

However, you can’t assume this automatically. There are a few cases when the Chase program doesn’t give you the lowest price. After all, this is a benefits program, not a discount program. The best way to check if you’re getting a good deal is to do a side-by-side comparison with your favorite booking site (or the hotel website).

One frequent scenario where you won’t get the best price is when you’re looking at a chain hotel. Many loyalty programs now offer 5% to 10% discounts to members when they book directly—and Chase can’t match those prices. You’ll need to decide which is worth more: the cash discount or the included benefits.

Another thing to look out for is that Chase Luxury Hotels typically offers flexible rates. If your plans are locked in stone, booking through other channels might give you the option of choosing a prepaid, nonrefundable rate at a major discount.

A quick comparison can confirm if you’re getting the best rate.

Over 1,000 Hotels Worldwide

One thousand hotels worldwide sounds like a lot until you realize that there may be that many in a single major city. The Chase Luxury Hotel & Resorts program may only have a handful of participating properties at your intended destination (and in some cases, there may be none).

Finding and Booking Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts

The easiest way to search participating properties, on-site benefits and specific rates is on the Chase Luxury Hotel website. Like the travel websites you’re used to, you’ll simply enter your destination, travel dates and number of guests to get started. Alternatively, you can call 1-855-234-2542 if you’d rather work with an agent.

After beginning your search, your results will include a list of properties and their rates for a standard room. Cardmember benefits are also displayed on the results page, making it easy to see all your options at a glance. Once you select an individual hotel, you’ll have the option to compare and select a specific room type and confirm the hotel’s cancellation policy.

You’ll need to provide your Chase credit card number at checkout to secure your reservation, although most hotels won’t charge you for the full stay until you arrive. Once you arrive, you’re under no obligation to actually charge the stay to your Chase card. This can be a handy way to stack Amex Offers with the Chase Luxury Hotel program if you have an American Express card.

How Chase Luxury Hotel & Resorts Can Save You Money

Chase Luxury Hotel & Resorts advertises good deals, but how does it actually stack up against hotel websites? To give you an idea of how much you can save, we conducted a few sample searches at popular vacation destinations.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is a 40-acre property offering oceanfront views of Ka‘anapali Beach. Even better, the resort sits in close proximity to some of West Maui’s popular attractions, including Whalers Village and West Maui beaches and attractions. All this to say, staying here will be pricey.

We searched breakfast-inclusive room rates for a four-night stay in December. This stay will cost you $3,309.52 when booked through Chase. Keep in mind this does not include the nightly $45 resort fee, which you’ll have to pay at the hotel.

Meanwhile, booking the same room directly through the resort’s website comes out to a total of $4,105.01. Granted, this rate includes $211.36 in resort fees. But even factoring those in, the Chase Luxury Hotel & Resorts package works out to be $584.13 cheaper than Hyatt’s rate. It’s worth noting that third-party bookings won’t earn you Hyatt points or count towards elite status, so be sure to compare the savings against the points earned.

Paradisus Cancun Resort

One of the most notable benefits of booking with Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts is the daily breakfast for two. But does the program lose its value when you’re booking an all-inclusive hotel? We’ve put this to the test by checking December rates at the all-inclusive Paradisus resort in Cancun.

A four-night stay for two guests prices out at $2,046 with taxes and fees. This includes a 50-minute massage per person and a welcome amenity. Guests also qualify for early check-in, late checkout and a room upgrade based on availability.

The same room booked directly on the Paradisus website would cost $2,104. By booking through Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts, you would not only get valuable perks but save $58.

Clearly, the Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort program can offer tremendous benefits over direct bookings. It’s worthwhile to at least check the rates before making a direct hotel booking, especially if you don’t have elite status and will have to pay for perks like breakfast.

When the Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Program Is Worth It

Obviously, any time a hotel costs the same when booked through Chase Luxury Hotels, it can be a great value. For no extra charge, you’ll get free breakfast and on-site credits with the possibility of a few other perks. These elite-like benefits are even extended at independent properties where there’s no such thing as status.

Even when Chase Luxury Hotels charges a modest amount more, the upcharge might be worth it. If you know you’ll use your benefits to their fullest capacity, it could be cheaper to pay a small differential than to pay separately for add-ons like breakfast. This is especially true on short stays: a $100 resort credit goes a long way on a one-night reservation.

Remember that all reservations made through this program must be paid with your credit card, not points. If your budget is tight and you have rewards available, you might prefer redeeming your points, even if that means forfeiting a few perks. Likewise, if you want access to your elite status benefits or are trying to requalify for elite status with a specific hotel chain, it’s better to book direct.

Bottom Line

For travelers booking upscale hotels, the collection of Chase Luxury Hotels & Resorts can be a rewarding way to enjoy extra benefits during your stay. The perks are similar to those offered through elite status programs, even though there’s no requirement other than booking with an eligible credit card.

Unfortunately, some perks aren’t guaranteed, and the reservation price isn’t always the lowest option, but comparing your options is painless and can result in a great deal.
